FREMONT, CA: Rackspace announces the next-generation of OnMetal Cloud Servers powered by OpenStack. The new bare metal servers are API-provisioned and are ideal for customers looking to run demanding workloads such as Cassandra, Docker, Spark and Windows that require intensive data processing, high compute power and scalability.

OnMetal Cloud Servers is capable of securely connecting Rackspace servers and devices within the customer’s environment via integration with Cloud Networks and RackConnect. For customers who require the flexibility and quick scalability of the cloud, as well as the security and performance of dedicated hardware, RackConnect is the solution for them. It allows customers to mix and match their computing platforms in a configuration that best meets their specific needs by providing a customized combination of public cloud, private cloud, virtualized and dedicated servers, as well as networking and security products.

Being an improvised version of its first generation, the bare metal server comprises RAID 1 mirrored storage with two swappable disks and 800GB standard storage to boot faster, with more local storage and improved reliability and uptime. It is built on second generation Open Compute servers, featuring the latest Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 processors.

OnMetal Cloud Servers help customers reduce the cost and complexity of their IT operation by enabling them to consolidate workloads from many virtual environments to a few bare metal servers. Rackspace’s single-tenant server gives customers the speed of bare metal with the same control, security and consistent performance as that of hardware. The next generation of OnMetal Cloud Servers will offer an improved selection of guest images with support for Windows available in the second quarter of 2016.

"Rackspace is leading the OpenStack market with unparalleled technical innovation and operational expertise. With the fastest deployment times in the industry and unmatched performance, OnMetal is the leading bare metal offering and the largest public deployment of OpenStack Ironic in the world. With the combination of new features and performance capabilities in the next generation of OnMetal, it can be a solution for many customers seeking OpenStack as the platform to run their most demanding workloads," said Paul Voccio, vice president, software development, Rackspace.
